The EKATI difference

Cool. Captivating. Mysterious and timeless. Diamonds possess a wealth of qualities and inspire a range of emotions.

Still, there are practical considerations when choosing a diamond. Understanding the "5C's of diamond grading", can help you assess a diamond's quality and price.

CutIn the hands of a master cutter, a diamond's brilliance and beauty is released for the world to see. Light reflects from one mirror-like facet to another and disperses through the top of the stone for an effect that is nothing less than scintillating. A well-cut diamond is bright, with a lively sparkle. AURIAS Select™ diamonds are cut and polished so precisely that every stone earns the highest possible AGS triple-ideal rating.

ColorWhile most diamonds appear white, in actual fact they have barely perceptible tints of color. Color affects the diamond's ability to reflect all hues of light, so generally those diamonds that appear nearly colorless are the rarest and the most expensive. Color is graded using an alphabetical scale ranging from D (colorless) to Z (noticeably light yellow, brown or grey).

ClarityAlmost all diamonds contain traces of other minerals in crystal form. These are called inclusions and can look like tiny crystals or clouds. Major inclusions can interfere with the path of light that travels through a diamond, thus diminishing its brilliance. Hence, the fewer and smaller the inclusions, the more valuable and dazzling the diamond. AURIAS diamonds are always at I1 or better rating.

CaratA diamond's size is measured in carat weight. The greater the carat weight, the more rare and valuable the diamond is. What makes a large diamond so exciting is that it displays color and cut to its best advantage. AURIAS diamonds are available only in sizes of one-third carat or larger.

CanadianMost diamonds can only be compared on the basis of four C's. AURIAS diamonds have a fifth point of distinction. They are uniquely Canadian. Genuine AURIAS diamonds have quickly found their place in the world hierarchy of fine diamonds. At the top. Pristine in every sense of the word. AURIAS diamonds are cut with a precision that reflects their extraordinary purity. AURIAS is a strict adherent of the Canadian Diamond Code of Conduct. The Code evolved from the collaborative efforts of a broad cross section of the industry including the diamond mining sector, cutters and polishers, retailers, the Canadian Jewellers Association and Jewellers Vigilance Canada as well as the RCMP and other government stakeholders.

A well-cut diamond reflects light back through the top of the stone, creating a bright, lively sparkle. If cut even a small percentage too deep or shallow, the stone loses light through the bottom and sides, resulting in a darker, less dramatic appearance. AURIAS Select™ diamonds are cut to the world's highest standard of perfection.

Color affects the diamond's ability to reflect all light, so generally the less color a diamond has, the higher its value.

Even high quality diamonds usually have slight flaws (called inclusions) that can look like tiny crystals when viewed under magnification. These are graded using a complex scale ranging from FL (Flawless) to I3 (Included). AURIAS diamonds are always I1 or better.

AURIAS diamonds are uniquely Canadian, so you can be sure of the origin of your stone.
